Anti Aging Dangers

How You Need To Change Your Diet As You Continue To Age

Everybody gets old. When you are young, your body needs certain proteins and vitamins to help you grow and develop properly. Soon, your body will stop growing and need certain other types of protein to help maintain a strong and healthy body, especially those who live a busy and hectic lifestyle.

People make the mistake thinking that when they get older their bodies nutritional needs decrease – this is not true. Your body needs the same amount. As you age, your body has a harder absorbing the vitamins and other nutrients it takes in. For instance, your skin has a harder time absorbing Vitamin D when you get older while it loses its elasticity. In fact, your body may need more nutrients than when you were younger. Dieticians who specialize in senior care recommend people who are over 50 to think about taking a supplement that’s enriched with nutrients.

Another important fact is that seniors need to drink plenty of water. Even though seniors may not seem thirsty, it is important that they drink at least 6 12oz glasses of water a day. Water contains the daily nutrients you need and hydrates the body.

People’s metabolism also slows down when they age, which is why senior citizens need to watch what they eat. The body slows down when it breaks down food to use as fuel. The body needs just as much protein and nutrients to function throughout the day as it did when it was younger.

A proper diet with plenty of exercise can increase your chances to living a long life. Watching what you eat is important. As you age, your body not being able to absorb important nutrients can cause serious medical problems. For example, the body starts to lose the ability to absorb calcium as it once did.
Fruits and vegetables are always good to consume, but the best nutritional value comes from nuts. Nuts are a good source of protein and excellent for snacking. The body also needs the “good” fats that you can get from avocados. Your body starts to lose body mass and muscle every ten years.

The stomach starts to lose the acid that helps in the digesting of foods. This is one of the reasons the body takes longer to absorb the essential nutrients and minerals.

The most important sign to look for is the possibility of having hypertension. Having high blood pressure is a silent killer and having it checked regularly by a doctor is a key in early detection. Most people with high blood pressure don’t even know they have it. The United States have the most people suffering from hypertension than any other country.

The Dangers Of Tanning Beds

We as a society love the look of a glowing tan. It is shown on every model in every magazine, and those who do not have a tan are often frowned upon as gothic or “vampire.” However, there is almost no model that tans, the damage to the skin would end their career. What they do is use spray tans. Aside from looks though, there are many other dangers that everyone should know about.

While we all love the look of a tan, no one thinks a bright red burn looks attractive. To your skin though, you are doing the same thing as a burn when you tan. A tan means that you have damaged the outer layer of your skin; even if you do it slowly it is still damage. People trying to get a base tan, often end up damaging their skin more so then people without due to the false sense of security. Though we do need vitamin D the amount that is needed is far less than the amount we take in when visiting a tanning bed.

The debate and argument keeps going back and forth between those against and those for tanning beds. Neither side would advise anyone to lie out in the sun every day though. The fact is that tanning beds emit up to twice the amount of UV that the sun does. It would be safer for a person trying to get a tan to lie outside then it would be for them to lie in a tanning bed. The only reason that people choose a tanning bed is that it is moderated. Most tanners are not self disciplined enough to lie outside for only ten minutes at a time.

The younger a person starts tanning the more at risk they are for permanent damage and even cancer. The cells of a younger person are growing and changing so much faster that it is prime growing place for melanoma. Skin cancer is on the rise, and more than seventy percent of all cases can be linked back either to the sun, or to a tanning bed.

Tanning also suppresses a person’s immune system. This means that they are not as easily able to fight off an infection or a common cold. Trying to look healthy is not as important as actually being healthy.

If you just love the look of a tan, there are spray tans now that look just as real. The technology has advanced so that there is no more orange glow when using a spray tan. Or there are self tanning lotions that progress over time. These lotions that progress, are very hard to make mistakes on because you would have to make the same mistake in the same spot every day for a week. That is highly unlikely.
